Self-discovery often happens when we move out of our comfort zone and find ourselves
Self-discovery is learning something true about one’s self. It is getting to know ourselves, our character, our personality, our spirit, our purpose, our identity, etc.

In this journey called LIFE, we pass through different situations and meet many people and we see many different places. In Life’s Journey, we face different experiences in life that impact our learning curve and influence our decisions in life and impact our final destination.
Everyone’s life has a purpose different situations and outcomes besides the main characters Life gave us more than multiple side characters who have given us a story that we can not discover but always wonder what is their lifelike.
“Life is a school where you learn how to remember what your soul already knows.” Anonymous
Let me begin with a summary of these two long posts, in short;
Life has an extraordinarily deep meaning and purpose, and it is amazingly fascinating when understood. Many of us are unaware of it, that that is why we suffer life instead of basking in the glory of its purpose and beauty.
“The purpose of a human life should be the pursuit of his passion, and, having found that passion, relentlessly use it for the betterment of the human race and serve others.”
Life provides a platform for gathering experience for our consciousness so that it can evolve and become better, wider, and more encompassing. This evolution, expansion (or whatever you may call it) goes on endlessly deeper and deeper and far beyond the human life with which we are familiar. The purpose of life is evolution. It is the singular purpose, and nothing else. Absolutely nothing else!
One purpose in our life with different situations. The sole purpose of life is the evolution of consciousness.
Islam is a complete religion having proficient knowledge about every matter of life and to our amazement, it has answers for this too. Quran clearly states that the Muslim’s whole life purpose is nothing but to obey Allah and keep His love above everything.
Islam gives a person a clear perspective on the events that happen in their life, both good and bad, as they are, in fact, tests from Allah. It encourages a person to understand events in the context of the overall purpose of life, which is to acknowledge God and obey Him.
Muslims believe that on the Day of Judgement, the record of your entire life on Earth will be checked. If you have done more good than bad, you will go to Heaven. If you have done more bad than good, you will go to Hell. This applies to Muslims only, anybody who died as a non-Muslim would go to Hell straight away.
So this Earth is an examination hall, where every human is a candidate. Your life is your test. Do more good than bad in your life and you pass the test and go to Heaven. Do more bad, you fail and go to Hell.
So the purpose of your life is to ‘pass the test’. What is the test? Your life. Do a good pass. Do bad ail. You get your result on Judgement Day. You were sent on Earth to be tested.
The difficult phase of our life completely changes us. We get to have a new experience, in this process, they actually discover how deeply they know themselves. All that is dug inside us pour out after self-examination. We get to know what can we do or what we cannot.
There are many ways to make meaning in life, just as there are many ways to make a living, and many ways to make a life for oneself.
So let’s set sail.
In this article, 1’ll give you a range of powerful questions to help you along your journey of self-discovery and point you toward further reading and resources.
Life is a path of self-discovery and an individual and monumental life story; where many different events and challenges shape us along the way. There are great discoveries in life, but the great discovery that anyone can ever make is self-discovery ( knowing who you are, your purpose in life, what you have, what you can do, and so on).
“The greatest discovery in life is self-discovery. Until you find yourself you will always be someone else. Become yourself.” Myles Munroe.
According to metaphysics, self-discovery is the awareness that you are one with infinite consciousness.
“Discovering who you are today is the first step to being who you will be tomorrow.” Destiny’s Odyssey
My understanding is to come to the conclusion that self-discovery means understanding and being aware of different aspects about yourself and then making conscious efforts to improve on them and ourselves is not this material body, but the spirit soul within (but different from) the body.
“Who am I? Ask and start your journey within.” Anonymous
It’s a complete game-changer because now the material body and senses are less important, which relegates all material activities to secondary, and primary is the focus on our real spiritual identity as an eternal servant of Allah.
“Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” Dolly Parton
Self Discovery is a Journey that is an exploration through our inner self, trying to know who we are, our potential, our purpose in life, and what are the core principles guiding us to take the different paths along the way. The Journey of Self Discovery starts with self Awareness means awakening yourself, then exploring personal interests as well as hopes and dreams for the future. The journey eventually leads us to self-knowledge which will enable us to guide ourselves towards the situation and experiences in which we will thrive.
“The story ends up being a journey of self-discovery.” Elijah Wood
Self-Discovery is not a just personal quest, but a journey. There is a long road ahead and you should be prepared to face all the problems, highs, and lows.
“The longest journey is the journey inward.” Dag Hannarskjold
When we engage in self-discovery, we want to figure out who we are. we want to know what our talents are that we can build on, develop and perfect further. we want to discover our opportunities in life and how we can utilize them.
The challenge with the process of self-discovery is to keep things in perspective so it does not become an exercise in navel-gazing. Like gazing at a tree or a mountain or most anything, we learn some truths from a distance and some truths when we get very close. Life is around and outside of us. Don’t miss it because we spend so much time staring inward.
In other words, we want to find out who we are. we want to know what makes us special and unique. we want to know what makes us loveable, why people like us, and connect with us. we want to discover our values, why we prefer certain things and dislike other things. we want to understand what makes us react a certain way or why we don’t react to certain things at all. we want to understand what makes us happy or sad and how to control our emotions. we want to discover what motivates us and what keeps us going despite adversities. we want to be aware of our emotions and reactions.
Sometimes we find ourselves totally lost. we’re following the path that has been designed for us, like a puppet, and still, find ourselves in the middle of nowhere without a map or compass to guide the way, or a cellphone to call home. That is what life is: a paradoxical Bermuda Triangle. we have no one but ourselves as a resource to stay afloat.
Self-discovery helps us to identify our abilities, but also how we can leverage and develop them. Because people can know what they are passionate about, it’s easier to grasp the concepts and accept them. Thus we find paths that we want to pursue and will make us happier.
Because if we know ourselves, we make better life choices.
Islamic Perspective about self-discovery:
It is true that the first step in the direction of unraveling our potential is to understand, in view of our circumstances, the role that we can best play. Discovering our uniqueness must be the starting point. Explaining the situation of one who is bereft of this knowledge. To understand better why this topic is of such importance, perhaps it helps to quote a few verses of the Glorious Qur’an and Hadiths on the subject. There are many verses in the Glorious Qur’an that elaborate.
“And be not like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget their own souls; these it is that are the transgressors.” (Quran 59:19)
Prophet Muhammad said:
“The condition of an unwise man is that of an animal who is not aware of why his master has tied it or untied it.”
This particular Hadith is highly focused on achieving and realizing closeness to Allah (Exalted and Majestic). What is meant by the idea of knowing oneself to achieve a close relationship with our Creator? What are the various entities of ourselves and the requirements of knowing oneself?
The Prophet of Islam said,
“Whosoever knows his self, knows his Lord”
that is, self-knowledge leads to knowledge of the Divine. It is knowledge about us, but
what kind of knowledge?
Self-knowledge deals with another aspect of our being. It is not related to our physical senses, rather it deals with the spiritual dimension of our lives.
When we speak of the different dimensions of the spirit, and of our being, we should not forget that the human being is fundamentally different from other beings. Although we are anchored to the animal world in many ways, here we wish to focus on that which separates us from animals and is not found in them.
For mankind to make this journey back to heaven it is imperative that we change the condition of our hearts and character towards obedience, service, and submission to the will of Allah (Exalted and Majestic). Human beings, due to their forgetfulness and heedlessness must remember the original covenant that was made with the Almighty Creator which will set in motion the return journey to Him.
Final Thoughts:
Life is an opportunity. It gives us the freedom to act as we should want to. If we fail to avail of this because of our own neglect, we shall have no justification for complaining later. The journey of Self-discovery can be rewarding and exciting if only we focus more on positive as well as extraordinary aspects.
Self-discovery is neither understood nor can be described in words; it is like tasting some delicacy, which only can be acknowledged by someone else, who has also tasted that delicacy.
“Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.” Henry David Thoreau
Self-discovery is the process of learning what feels wrong and right to you. Self-discovery is learning to rewrite our stories where applicable and to be aware of the projections we place on the people around us. Maybe those “villains” have good. maybe your allies are imperfect. When we understand the stories we use to translate our experiences, we are potentially able to see the people in our life much more clearly- for who they are- imperfect and beautiful and I find that discovery to be quite important. Any treasure you find within yourself should reflect back on the world you live in and make it a better place.
how I see it simply. We have so many same and different people. We are here to create. Part of this process we will run into is how we negotiate our wants, needs, to others and they negotiate their side.
If one gains a stronghold on their entirety then the world and others are not as scary. One can better negotiate closer to their alignment. Ultimately, creates a wholesome experience in life and the elusive happiness.
See where I am going?
The only way for you to create a life that will suit you is to know who you are, what you like, what you don’t like because like it or not, they define you to a certain extinct.
This one has learned how to love that inner child and give self-care tenderly and lovingly. As one's own mother never could. To now be aligned of an open heart with the centered mind of no mind for the benefit of self and others.
“You have no need to travel anywhere. Journey within yourself, enter a mine of rubies and bathe in the splendour of your own light.” Rumi
going within to discover the truth of who and what we truly are, thereby also discovering our divine purpose of being, and in so doing, accomplishing liberation.
Finding your true self to the fullest.
To discover by yourself who you are. No questions to others allowed.
Self-discovery is the greatest discovery of our life. It is the discovery that helps us to dig deeper. It is a process of knowing oneself. Self-discovery is digging out what is hidden in someone’s personality. It is self-knowing and self-consciousness. A person who gets aware of his ability and knows his strengths can perform better than an individual doesn’t aware of his weak and strong points.
“Once you’ve started down that road to self-discovery, no matter how treacherous the path before you, you can’t turn back. The universe doesn’t allow it.” Lisa Unger
Self-discovery is a must and the most wanted thing for better performance and to live a happy, prosperous and satisfying life. It is also a necessary element for spiritual awakening. Self-discovery helps to develop a good relationship with inner and outer natural forces.
verily good deeds do away with evil deeds.
