Independence Without Freedom?
Questioning the Meaning Behind Our Freedom
They told us we’re free, but kept the keys.
They taught us to sing not to speak.
They taught us slogans, but not how to think.
They built flags, but left the people sinking.
We hold the flag high, but fear to stand tall.
We celebrate freedom, yet live in someone else’s shadow.
And ask others how to run our house
Quaid showed the way, but we took easy roads and empty titles.
He sought justice & unity, yet we traded both for walls & divides.
We raised a flag with blood and sweat
Now it’s just a cover for silent regret
Elections come but results are written first
People stand in line but their voice is replaced
The powerful wear democracy like a costume
But behind the curtain it’s just control
Leaders bring garlands to mask their lies
While truth in the shadows slowly dies
They speak on TV with confident faces
But can’t explain why children sleep hungry
