A Muslim Perspective: Why Feel Bad & Depressed After Committing Sin
The best of you is the one who makes repentance “TAWBA” immediately after committing a sin.
In this story, I would like to share some my food of thoughts “ why we may continue to feel guilty after committing a sin.
Don’t despair in the Mercy of Allah Almighty.
Why because of The fact that We stated that we committed some very serious sins in the past. we can hear our regret, our remorse, fear as well as our deep sadness in this question is a sign that Allah Almighty wants good for us. It is obvious that we are very sorry and do want to repent.
We know a lot of times we commit a sin and then we get stuck with that sin and we don’t really know how to get over it. we struggle with feelings of guilt, shame, and condemnation after committing a sin. At times, we were absolutely crushed and felt like we were constantly failing.
We are saying we have sinned a lot and we have lost all Eman we had.
So, it is natural to feel bad about sin.
Right now turn to Allah Almighty and say oh Allah forgive me
Just that’s simple.
“And most surely I am most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does good, then continues to follow the right direction.” (Holy Qur’an, 20:82)
There’s no middle man in Islam we don’t need to sit in a box or put some money in a box or sit in front of a human being and confess to this and no between Allah Almighty and us right now. Say O ! Allah Almighty forgive me know that Allah will forgive us.
That’s separated Islam from any other religion.
This is the beauty of Islam no matter who we are no matter where we are no matter what condition we are in no matter how much sin we’ve committed now Allah Almighty forgives all our sins.
“Say: O my servants! who have acted extravagantly against their own souls, do not despair of the mercy of Allah; surely Allah forgives the faults altogether; surely He is the Forgiving the Merciful.”(Holy Qur’an 39:53).
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH said: “Verily, Allah when He created the creation, He wrote with His Hand concerning Himself, that: ‘My mercy prevails over My wrath.’” Tirmidhi
Lets define sin
As Muslims, We see sin as anything or action that goes against the commands of Allah Almighty.
Sins always make us feel bad, because of course it goes against what we believe in.
“ Islam teaches that a sin is an act and not a state of being. It is believed that God weighs an individual’s good deeds against their sins on the Day of Judgement and punishes those individuals whose evil deeds outweigh their good deeds. In the teachings of Islam, God’s forgiving and His mercy overshadows His wrath. Many sins will be simply overlooked and for the most part, all sins can be forgiven through simply repenting and asking for God’s forgiveness.”
Purify Heart After Committing A Sin:
When a Muslim commits a sin, his or her heart is covered by a stain, but it is removed by repentance and good deeds. Therefore, a Muslim must continue to perform supplications, prayers, charity, and good deeds until the heart is purified from sin.
Allah said: “He has succeeded who purifies the soul, and he has failed who corrupts the soul.” (Qur’an, 91:9–10)
Along with the purification of the heart and soul, Islam lays equal stress on the cleansing of the body.

when we repent to Allah, we pray and ask Him to forgive us for a sin we committed. When asking for repentance and forgiveness we need to ensure we are true, sincerely sorry for the sin we committed. We also need to be sure we are determined not to commit that sin again. We also need to be aware to keep away from things that will lead us to that sin. That is one of the key things of repentance, otherwise, we would just keep sinning and doing the same old sin over and over and asking for forgiveness. It doesn’t work that way.

Start Over After a Life of Sins:
Sometimes, We are struggling to start life again and again committing sins. So, this article for help you learn more about how to start life after committing a sin.
My Best Books:
Top three books for Muslims trying to better themselves:
1. Reclaim Your Heart
by Yasmin Mogahed
One of the best books I’ve ever read. I love this book! It’s filled with thoughtful and religious reminders, and it makes you see things in a different light and also It changed your whole perspective on life.
Best line : “There is one recipe for unhappiness — Expactations.”
2. Secrets of Divine Love: A Spiritual Journey into the Heart of Islam
by A. Helwa
This book talks abt unity, surely we have lots of differences and opinions but this book ignores the differences and talks abt respecting the faith and belief of all the different schools of thoughts and invites every believer and also a disbeliever to read it and have an opportunity to be close to the divine love.
It focuses on the five important pillars of Islam and talks abt it beautifully along with quotes from Quran and Hadiths.
“Best Lines: Love. It is the reason there is something instead of nothing. It is from the soil of love that all of existence blossoms into being.”
3. Purification of the heart
by Hamza Yusuf
Purification of the Heart by Hamza Yusuf is a great book. It covers a number of spiritual diseases providing an overview of the cause and affects as well as solutions for both Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Hamza Yusuf does an excellent job of linguistically expressing the major emotions which contribute to the ‘Spiritual diseases of the heart’, by providing both the causes and cures to these problems, in the clearest and beautiful of ways. He provides evidence using examples of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) but also alludes to modern events and issues and renowned academic ideas (for those of you who aren’t interested in religious ideologies). For the people who are doing some soul searching or want peace of heart and mind for emotionally straining times, this is a good book to help you understand yourself, the human psyche and develop a way to better yourself and make rational decisions in the future, without emotional turmoil’s, or less of them.
“If we want to change our world, we do not begin by rectifying the outward. Instead, we must change the condition of our inward.” Hamza Yusuf, Purification of the Heart.
Also, recommend a version of “the clear Quran” for those of us who get overwhelmed by the original text.
Some Islamic Sufi Dhikr:
I would like to share some of my favorite Sufi music with you which helps you during the most difficult time when you are stuck, struggling, and feel guilty after committing sins.
Final Thoughts:
ALLAH Almighty has made us weak. we need to be guided and are prone to making mistakes and committing sins.
When we are stuck in a cycle of sin and repentance, it is tempting to give into despair. Rather than give up, choose to look away from your state, and look to Allah. when we repent to Allah, we pray and ask Him to forgive us for a sin we committed. When asking for repentance and forgiveness we need to ensure we are true, sincerely sorry for the sin we committed.
Have hope that His Mercy is tremendous and more than enough to forgive you, along with all of creation, if He wishes.
ALLAH Almighty is most forgiving and merciful, but He’s also just. If you don’t think you have done a bad thing, why should ALLAH Almighty forgive you for it?
ALLAH Almighty treats you better than you treat yourself, but not entirely different.
Also, Islam tells us to politely point out & remind someone if we see them doing something Haram. But it doesn’t say judge them, put them down, & act like you’re better than them for not committing that specific sin. It’s people like you who push others further away from Islam.
The goal of a human is to love ALLAH Almighty and avoid sins that offend Him. those who love ALLAH Almighty the most reach the highest position in Heaven, so by sinning against ALLAH Almighty or other humans, you only hurt yourself because you stop yourself from climbing the ladder to Jannah, therefore repent.
verily good deeds do away with evil deeds.
And that is a reminder for those who remember.
Be patient with yourself. And Keep learning!!
